Woman, 26, Dies After Falling Down Stairs at a Nightclub While Heading to the Bathroom

A fun night out for two friends took a devastating turn when only one of them made it back home.

Georgia Harry, a 26-year-old civil servant from Aigburth, tragically lost her life after what was supposed to be just another late-night link-up turned fatal. The heartbreaking details surrounding her passing were shared during an inquest held at Gerard Majella Courthouse on Wednesday.

Earlier that Sunday, March 16, Georgia had met up with her friend Michael Pollard at Punch Tarmey’s in Liverpool around 3 p.m. The two were catching up, sipping on lagers and vodka, before Georgia dipped out for a bit to link up with another friend. Hours later, in the early morning of Monday, March 17, Pollard saw her again—this time at Lost bar on Seel Street, around 2 a.m.

But it was just minutes later—at about 2:15 a.m.—when the night took a fatal turn. Georgia and Pollard headed toward the basement toilets. According to his statement, she held on to his arm as they descended the stairs, but her legs suddenly gave out. She fell and hit her head on the concrete floor.

Paramedics rushed her to Aintree Hospital, where doctors began initial assessments before transferring her to The Walton Centre. A toxicology report revealed Georgia had a blood alcohol level of 294—more than three times the legal driving limit—and a “low level of ketamine” in her system. She remained on life support for nearly a month, until her death on April 13, 2025.

An inspection by Liverpool City Council revealed that the stairs lacked anti-slip strips—a safety requirement the nightclub later corrected.

While authorities initially investigated the possibility that Georgia was pushed, Detective Inspector Dillon from Merseyside Police confirmed there was no foul play.

Coroner Anita Bhardwaj closed the inquest stating, “More likely than not that Georgia has died from the injuries sustained from the fall. From the evidence we have heard, there is nothing to suggest that it was anything more than an accident.”

She continued, “These are absolutely tragic circumstances surrounding her death.”

Our hearts go out to her family and friends.
