Kevin Hunter Demands End to Wendy Williams’ Guardianship in Explosive $250M Lawsuit

Wendy Williams’ ex-husband is coming in hot with a $250 million lawsuit, claiming the beloved TV host is being held against her will in a court-imposed guardianship. Filed Tuesday in New York federal court, Kevin Hunter says Wendy’s guardianship “has become a weapon, not a shield.”

Wendy Williams’ Assisted Living Facility Files Police Report Accusing Niece Alex Finnie Of ‘Kidnapping’ Her For Dinner, Wendy Calls It ‘Unbelievable’

The lawsuit names her court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrissey, Wells Fargo (who first raised alarms about her finances in 2022), former financial advisor Lori Schiller, ex-manager Bernie Young, and several others.

In the bombshell complaint, Wendy’s legal name is used, stating:

“Ms. Hunter, [is] being abused, neglected, and defrauded under the care of court-appointed guardians. The guardianship … serves no therapeutic purpose, no protective function. It is punishment—pure and simple.”

Hunter alleges that Wendy is locked away in a Coterie assisted living facility, where her phone use is monitored and she barely gets to speak to loved ones.

How Did It Get This Far? A Look Back at Wendy’s Guardianship

Back in January 2022, Wells Fargo froze Wendy’s accounts over what they called “suspicious activity.” The bank then reached out to the courts, suggesting that she needed a guardianship. Wendy didn’t fight it — at first.

The guardianship was granted and she voluntarily entered into it that same year. But now, according to Hunter, things have taken a dark turn.

Despite Wendy’s health challenges — including Graves’ disease, frontotemporal dementia, and progressive aphasia — the suit argues she’s still mentally fit.

Hunter claims that in March 2025, Wendy passed a full competency evaluation and has been described by medical pros as “alert and oriented.” Yet no one in charge of her care has taken steps to remove the guardianship, even with those positive reports.

Hunter’s Allegations: Fraud, Overmedication & Isolation

Hunter is not holding back. In the lawsuit, he paints a picture of abuse and mismanagement, accusing those in power of overmedicating Wendy and keeping her isolated.

He claims her guardians are ignoring professional medical advice and instead keeping her in what he calls “fraudulent bondage.” The documents state Wendy is still being held in the assisted living center despite being cleared by medical staff.

The filing also says:

“Despite Ms. Hunter passing a competency evaluation in or around March 2025 and being described by healthcare professionals as alert and oriented during welfare checks.”

Hunter also accuses the people around Wendy of exploiting her financially. He specifically calls out Schiller and Young for allegedly blowing through her money and violating her trust.

Wendy’s Downward Spiral After Divorce Plays Key Role

According to Hunter, everything went left after their messy divorce in 2020. He says Wendy was already emotionally wrecked — especially with him having a child outside their marriage — and wasn’t ready to handle everything on her own.

“She was left to navigate complex financial and medical matters without Mr. Hunter’s experienced oversight,” the suit claims.
That statement alone sparked strong reactions online, with many wondering if Hunter was trying to position himself as a savior or genuinely concerned.

Still, the lawsuit insists that Wendy didn’t willingly enter this guardianship — she was “coerced” into it due to stress and financial pressure.

Where Things Stand Now — And What Comes Next

So far, none of the major players — Morrissey, Schiller, or Young — have responded publicly to the $250 million claim. But one thing’s for sure: this case is shining a harsh spotlight on court-appointed guardianships and how easily things can go wrong.
