Well, on the latest episode of Keeping Up with Donald Trump, his administration has frozen nearly all federal loans and grants.
Late Monday, the White House’s Office of Management and Budget instructed all federal agencies to pause the disbursement of loans and grants while the government conducts a review. Why? Well, according to a memo that was sent out, it’s to ensure spending aligns with President Trump’s agenda.
“This temporary pause will provide the Administration time to review agency programs and determine the best uses of the funding for those programs consistent with the law and the President’s priorities,” the memo issued by acting director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Matthew Vaeth, states.
When Does the Pause Go into Effect?
The pause is set to go into effect at 5 p.m. this Tuesday, according to the memo, which was reviewed by multiple outlets. However, OMB may grant exceptions for certain awards on a case-by-case basis. The memo indicates that Social Security or Medicare benefits should not be impacted by this, nor should assistance that is provided directly to individuals.
During this time, federal agencies are instructed to conduct a thorough review to determine whether federal loan and grant programs are affected by Trump’s wave of executive orders during his first week in office. Those orders included border security, the federal workforce, ending the “weaponization” of government, the military, along with other aspects of government.
As many are aware, Trump has long vowed to take a significant pause on spending for some programs, such as DEI and foreign aid. Now that he’s officially back in office, he’s not playing any games.
