Nick Cannon Acknowledges He ‘Needs Help’ As He Reveals His Narcissistic Personality Disorder Diagnosis

Nick Cannon

Nick Cannon is an open book, which is why it comes as no surprise that he’s sharing something super personal.

After revealing that he has been diagnosed with Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) in an episode of his “Counsel Culture” podcast, the “Masked Singer” host is admitting that he still “needs help.”

“I still don’t understand it all the way, but I kind of always wanted to get tested for it. I did a bunch of tests,” the 44-year-old told PEOPLE while serving meals at the Los Angeles Mission’s Thanksgiving celebration on Wednesday. “I’ve been diagnosed with ADHD. Even as a kid, it was dyslexia, but just knowing that I’m just a neurodivergent individual, I kind of always knew.”

He went on to say, “I feel like there’s so many labels out there, but it’s like, to be able to embrace it and say, ‘Look, I’m healing. I need help. Show me.’ I just embrace mental health and therapy in such a strong way,” he continued. “To be able to say I’m an example for others, but also be healing during the self-process works too.”

What Is NPD?

NPD stands for Narcissistic Personality Disorder, and it’s like when someone’s ego is so inflated that they think they’re the main character in everyone’s story. Typically these folks crave attention and admiration, often putting others down to feel better about themselves. They might act like they’re the best at everything, but deep down, they struggle with empathy and real connections. It’s a wild mix of confidence and insecurity, making it tough for them to handle criticism or relationships.

Now, as Cannon continues to navigate his health, one things for sure, he’s been doing a great job at managing his time to attend to each of his kids, especially during the holidays.

Cannon is a father of 12. He has twins Moroccan and Monroe, 13, with his ex-wife, Mariah Carey, and sons Golden Sagon, 7, and Rise Messiah, 2, along with 3-year-old daughter Powerful Queen with Brittany Bell. Additionally, he is the father to twins Zion Mixolydian and Zillion Heir, 3, and daughter Beautiful Zeppelin, 2, with Abby De La Rosa, as well as 2-year-old son Legendary Love with Bre Tiesi and Onyx Ice Cole, 2, with LaNisha Cole.

Cannon and Alyssa Scott’s son, Zen, tragically passed away from brain cancer at 5 months old in 2021. The pair are also parents to daughter Halo Marie, 1.
