As previously reported, the former One Direction star was found dead on Wednesday after falling from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. Local authorities have released limited information regarding the incident, but his family is now speaking out, requesting privacy and space during this tragic time.
In a statement to multiple outlets, family members of the pop star expressed, “Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul.” They further stated, “We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time,” as quoted by the BBC.
Payne had been in Argentina to attend his former bandmate Niall Horan’s show at the Movistar Arena in Buenos Aires, accompanied by his girlfriend Kate Cassidy. Videos from his trip indicated that he was enjoying the concert, dancing with his partner and interacting with fans. Tragically, Payne was just 31 years old at the time of his passing.

A 911 call has also been released, in which hotel management urgently requested police assistance, reporting an aggressive man who might be under the influence of drugs or alcohol and expressed concern for his safety. Howevver, authorities have yet to confirm whether drugs or alcohol were involved in this incident.
An investigation is currently underway to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Payne’s untimely death, and local police have informed outlets that an autopsy will be conducted.
Fans and fellow entertainers continue to pay tribute to Payne online. Paris Hilton tweeted, “So upsetting to hear the news of @LiamPayne passing Sending love and condolences to his family & loved ones. RIP my friend,” while Zedd, who collaborated with the former boy bander on “Get Low,” shared, “RIP Liam… I can’t believe this is real… absolutely heartbreaking…”
