Democrats knew they were in trouble long before President Joe Biden’s disastrous presidential debate.
It’s why pundits teased a Hail Mary plan to drag Biden across the finish line earlier this year: The Taylor Swift seal of approval.
The pop music sensation sat out the 2016 presidential race and paid a price for it. The media savaged her for staying silent, with some outlets suggesting she needed to renounce her white supremacist fans.
She eventually fell in line. They even made a movie about her political transformation – Netflix’s “Miss Americana.”
Except a funny thing happened during the biggest year of her already momentous career. Swift kept politics off stage in 2023.
Her Eras Tour stuck to the songs. No speeches. No pro-abortion messaging. No anti-Trump digs. Just the hits. And she became the biggest celebrity on the planet.
She hasn’t changed her tune during this year’s presidential rematch between Biden and Donald Trump. No Instagram messages telling fans to vote Blue come November. No attacks on “Orange Man Bad.”
Nothing.
Now, the Democrats are pinning their hopes on Vice President Kamala Harris. The former Senator is ready to step in for Biden, who is withdrawing from the race. His recent speech on the matter proved short on specifics.

Harris’ ascendancy has put the Vice President’s race and gender top of mind. Suddenly, critiquing Harris’ record smacks of racism and sexism in some circles.
Expect those Identity Politics cards to get a heavy workout over the next 100 days. And that’s where Swift comes in.
Can the superstar stand down when Swifties have a chance to elect the first female President? Can she ignore that feminist narrative?
She may have resisted backing Biden due to his obvious cognitive decline. There’s no such issue with Harris.
The Democratic Party already teased a possible role for Swift before Harris’ ascension.
NEW: Democrats are reportedly considering a ‘blitz primary’ to replace Biden before the 2024 convention, then using ‘cultural icons’ like Michelle Obama, Oprah, and Taylor Swift to engage voters

Now, Hollywood is circling the wagons around Harris. The press is scrubbing inconvenient facts about her previous stances to smooth her ascent. Can Swift resist joining the pro-Harris movement?

One thing is clear.
If Swift stays out of the 2024 campaign and Harris loses to Trump, the media won’t be happy. Expect a flood of furious think pieces blaming her for a second Trump term, no matter how specious the argument may be.
For that reason alone expect Swift’s silence to end between now and Election Day.
