A restaurant in St. Louis is enforcing an age policy for a more mature atmosphere

A restaurant in Florissant, Missouri, faces controversy after their policy requires adults over 30 and up to enter.

Bliss aims to provide adults with a unique dining experience to enjoy West African and Caribbean cuisine or grab a drink during happy hour. Two weeks after its opening, the restaurant’s age policy caused a debate on social media. Still, assistant manager Erica Rhodes said the rule was created to prevent drama at the establishment. “It’s just something for the older people to come do and have a happy hour, come get some good food, and not have to worry about some of the young folks that bring some of that drama,” she explained to WCTV.

Owner Marvin Pate,36, acknowledged the backlash and said he’s not doubling down on the restaurant’s policy. He stated that patrons who enter “the restaurant after 7 p.m. from Wednesday to Sunday must show their identification to a hostess or a St. Louis County police officer.”

However, Rhodes assured younger patrons they could visit the restaurant when they turned 30 or 35. Other customers who have visited the restaurant, such as Fernando Smith, said he supports the policy and believes the management is on the right track to attract customers.

The restaurant’s Instagram page also reminds customers about the age policy and those who learned about it through its viral moment said they would like to experience the “grown and sexy” vibe. “I just saw this place on a new outlet and the age restriction,can’t wait to visit and be around a more mature crowd,” an Instagram user wrote under one of the posts.
