Lil Nas X was first introduced to the world with his country banger ‘Old Town Road’ and while reflecting on his accomplishments the rapper admitted that his moment wasn’t celebrated like Beyonce’s and Shaboozey’s.

While speaking with BBC in a new interview, Nas stated that he’s “happy” that these artists are getting their much-deserved shine but also added how he wishes that “would have happened for me,” he continued, “I wasn’t even able to experience this.”

Beyoncé has achieved a significant milestone with her Cowboy Carter country album, as the song “Texas Hold ‘Em” became the first single by a Black woman to reach No. 1 on the Hot Country Songs chart. The album itself also topped the Top Country Albums chart, marking the first time a project by a Black woman has reached this position. Additionally, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” experienced great success by entering the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.

Nas did not receive the same level of recognition for his venture into country music with the songs “Old Town Road” in 2018 and the remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus in 2019. In fact, in 2019, Billboard decided to remove the track from its Country Songs chart because it didn’t “embrace enough elements of today’s country music to chart in its current form,” according to the news publication.
