Welp, get ready for showdown as President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump have agreed to participate in a highly anticipated presidential debate.

Breaking away from the traditional format organized by the Commission on Presidential Debates, both candidates have expressed their willingness to engage in a one-on-one encounter on CNN.

President Biden made the bold decision to bypass the usual three fall meetings organized by the bipartisan commission, instead proposing a direct negotiation between the Trump and Biden campaigns. In his video message and letter to the commission, Biden outlined his vision for the debates, including discussions on rules, moderators, and network. He also wrote on Twitter: “I’ve received and accepted an invitation from @CNN for a debate on June 27th. Over to you, Donald. As you said: anywhere, any time, any place.”

He also said, “I’ve also received and accepted an invitation to a debate hosted by ABC on Tuesday, September 10th. Trump says he’ll arrange his own transportation. I’ll bring my plane, too. I plan on keeping it for another four years.”

Shortly after Biden’s announcement, Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee, publicly expressed his acceptance of the proposed debate on Truth Social. He said,

“I am Ready and Willing to Debate Crooked Joe at the two proposed times in June and September,” Trump posted. “I would strongly recommend more than two debates and, for excitement purposes, a very large venue, although Biden is supposedly afraid of crowds – That’s only because he doesn’t get them. Just tell me when, I’ll be there. ‘Let’s get ready to Rumble!!!’”

Trump also said in a separate statement to Fox News Digital, that he “will provide my own transportation.”

The upcoming debate between Biden and Trump is expected to be a riveting showdown, reminiscent of their encounters during the 2020 election cycle.

The first debate is scheduled to take place June 27 on CNN, making it easily accessible to a wide audience. The timing of the debate, falling on a Thursday, is strategically planned to coincide with the expected conclusion of Trump’s New York trial.
