‘The View‘ host Whoopi Goldberg is defending couples with age gaps and revealing that she was once a part of that group of daters. The 68-year-old actress-turned-TV host admitted that one of her last boyfriends was 40 years older than her. If that’s truly the case, that means the ‘Sister Act‘ actress’ ex would be about 108 years old as of 2024.
On Thursday’s (March 7) episode of ‘The View,’ Goldberg and her co-hosts discussed the upcoming movie, ‘The Idea of You,’ which is a romantic comedy about an age-gap romance starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine. Hathaway plays a 40-year-old woman who develops a relationship with a singer in his 20s, Galitzine.
During the conversation, Whoopi Goldberg fires back against the criticism the movie’s trailer has already begun to receive. She said, “Some called the age gap ‘disgusting,’ while others say. ‘They’re here for it.’ You know, this is not new. Cher had all kinds of wonderful young men. Demi Moore has had all kinds… Merle Oberon, Terry McMillian, from ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back.'”
Goldberg said she didn’t see a problem with dating someone younger or older than you. She asserted, “What is the problem? If you don’t want to see the movie, don’t see the movie. Stop b*tching about it.”
The comment led to a big discussion with the panel of co-hosts on age gaps, during which Whoopi Goldberg stated, “Your age is not what’s going to get me into your arms. It’s not your age that I’m concerned about unless you’re under 18. I’ve gone up and down. Because your age is not what’s going to get me into your arms. It’s not your age that I’m concerned about. Unless you’re under 18, in which case I can’t.”
Her co-host Joy Behar then argued that a large age difference “could be problematic,” adding,” 60 and 80 starts to get a little hairy.” Whoopi Goldberg then shocked all of her co-hosts and audience members when she dropped a bomb revealing, “Actually, I’m just gonna say this to you. One of the last relationships I had, he was 40 years older than me.”
Goldberg didn’t provide additional details about the relationship or specify when she dated the older man, but one of her co-hosts continued to ask one further question. Behar then asked if the man was still alive, to which Goldberg replied, “Mm Hmm.”
