Heartbreaking story coming out of South Carolina: A father and his 6-year-old daughter were found frozen to death following a horrific car crash.

Jason Murph, 42, and his daughter, Michelle, had embarked on a journey to visit Jason’s mother but tragically never made it. Their bodies were discovered by police K-9 dogs, approximately 50 yards away from their wrecked vehicle. The cause of death was determined to be hypothermia, as they were caught in freezing temperatures while attempting to seek help. This devastating event has left the community and their family in complete shock and mourning.

According to the New York Post, Jason Murph and his daughter set out from Blythewood to visit his mother in Orangeburg, a distance of 60 miles. However, they encountered an accident on the way, causing their vehicle to slide off the road. The incident was reported by Jason to his estranged wife, who received a distressing call from him around 8 o’clock that night. Jason was unsure of their location during the call, and his wife could hear their daughter yelling in the background before the call abruptly ended. Despite her attempts to reach out to him and advise him to call 911, there was no response. They were officially reported missing on Dec. 16.

Surveillance footage from an Exxon gas station even captured Jason’s silver Toyota Tundra pickup truck just over an hour before his final call to his wife. It is believed that the truck became stuck in the mud, prompting Jason to make multiple attempts to free it. Unfortunately, the friction from the tires ignited a grass fire, engulfing the vehicle. In a desperate bid to extinguish the flames and seek help, Jason and his daughter managed to escape the burning wreckage. However, as they tried to make their way to the nearby interstate, they found themselves trapped in the mud near a creek.

Two days after the crash, police K-9 dogs found the lifeless bodies of Jason and Michelle on Dec. 18, approximately 50 yards from the accident site. The autopsies conducted on the victims were inconclusive, but the Calhoun County coroner determined that hypothermia was the cause of death, considering the harsh weather conditions at the time. No signs of foul play or suspicious injuries were found on the bodies, suggesting that their deaths were a tragic result of the circumstances they faced.

“It wasn’t below freezing by no means, but because of the wind and the rain, they become extremely cold, and I think it became an urgency for them to try to find help and try to find shelter,” Coroner Donnie Porth told local station News19.

The loss of Jason Murph and his young daughter has deeply affected the community, leaving friends, family, and neighbors in a state of shock and grief. Calhoun County Coroner Donnie Porth also said in a statement, “I would ask everyone to keep their family and friends and their prayers and thoughts.”
