In a heartbreaking incident that has left the community in shock, a 10-year-old student tragically lost her life after being struck by two vehicles while crossing the street after school.
According to the Arlington Police Department’s news release, the incident occurred at approximately 3:56 p.m. on Thursday. Investigators believe that the victim, Liyah-Grace Holsey, was attempting to cross from the north side of Sublett Road to the south side when she was struck by two vehicles traveling in the eastbound lanes. The collision took place at a time when many students were heading home after school, making the incident even more devastating.
Little Holsey was immediately rushed to a local hospital in critical condition. Medical staff worked tirelessly to save her life, but unfortunately, her injuries proved fatal. The news of her passing reached the officers later that night, leaving the community in deep sorrow.
The Arlington Police Department has stated that both drivers involved in the accident have cooperated fully with their investigation. At this stage, no criminal charges have been filed.
The department is working diligently to gather all the necessary information to further determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
While speaking on the horrific accident, Mary Moore Elementary School principal Wendy Baker spoke with KXAS-TV and said that she and assistant the principal were at the venue and accompanied Hosley to the hospital.
“We had a parent who had driven by and saw that there was an accident that had happened not too far away from here,” she told the outlet. “I think when you find out any of your children — as a parent, or as a principal, you are devastated. It is the worst nightmare that you can imagine,” added Baker.
The loss of a young life is always a painful experience, and the community has rallied together to support the grieving family and friends of Liyah-Grace Holsey. Local schools, community organizations, and neighbors have come together to offer their condolences and provide any assistance needed during this difficult time

In a statement to PEOPLE, the Arlington Independent School District remembered Hosley as a “wonderful student who loved to sing so much that she joined the choir and never missed a practice.”
“Words are not adequate to describe the grief everyone in the Arlington ISD feels today, especially our students, staff, and families at Mary Moore Elementary School, after learning that Liyah-Grace Holsey, a 5th grader at Mary Moore, died after being struck by a vehicle while crossing the street after school yesterday,” their statement read.
The school’s principal said little Hosley had a significant impact on her peers. “She had a big impact on them, and you can tell, when they heard this, whether they heard this at home or here at school, they were devastated.”
The family of the victim are still searching for answers and hopefully the investigation will provide them soon.
