Once again, the reality star Khloe Kardashian finds herself at the center of controversy, this time being accused of “blackfishing.” The term refers to individuals who alter their appearance to appear as if they have a different racial or ethnic background. In this case, Khloe Kardashian and her sister Kim, along with friends Olivia Pierson and Natalie Harco, dressed up as Bratz dolls for Halloween.

While many liked their look and attention to detail in recreating the Bratz doll aesthetic, some critics raised concerns about the potential appropriation of Black culture. The accusations of blackfishing also stem from the perceived alteration of their appearances to mimic features traditionally associated with Black women.

In response to the controversy surrounding her Halloween costume choice, Khloe Kardashian appears to be addressing the issue on social media. Late Thursday she shared a post that read, “You can’t control how others interpret your actions or words. Everyone perceives things based on their current situations and mindset. Just keep acting with honesty, love and a good
heart.” Khloe also appeared to hit back at critics by sharing videos of her explaining how she went above and beyond to achieve her Bratz look…not by editing but by using prosthetic lips and blocking her brows.

“Not only did we have silicone prosthetic lips on, we also blocked our brows,” Khloe explained on her Instagram Story on Nov. 2. “We concealed our natural brows and we painted on fake eyebrows much higher than where our real eyebrows would be.” Further explaining why she and the girls took this route, Khloe added, “This gives our eyes the effect that they are much larger than they are. So we look more like a doll.”

Now, this is not the first time Khloe Kardashian has faced such accusations. In recent years, she has been called out for allegedly altering her appearance through various means such as tanning or cosmetic procedures. Oftentimes, many people point out how unrecognizable she looks when she uploads a new photo or video to her Instagram account.

However, aside from black-fishing claims they also accused her of having multiple surgeries including a face transplant. Last year, she also hit back at those claims and denied having that procedure done.

“It did use to bother me when people were [saying] I’ve had 12 face transplants. I’m like, ‘Oh, my God, I have?’ I was like, ‘That’s crazy,’ ” Kardashian told host Amanda Hirsch on her “Not Skinny But Not Fat” podcast. “It didn’t bother me. It offended me,” the Good American founder continued. “I just couldn’t figure out why people thought that.”

During that interview, Kardashian emphasized that she’s “had one nose job that I love.” She added, “Like, I want everyone to know. … I don’t care to lie about it. But the transplant thing, I just want to understand why,” people think that, she said. “That sounds amazing later in life, but now, I’m good.”
