This Monday kicks off the trial for former President Donald Trump in a $250 million lawsuit that could greatly affect his personal fortune and real estate empire that he built.
As we previously reported, a New York judge ruled in the state attorney general’s $250 million lawsuit that claimed his company committed repeated acts of fraud for years. While arriving at the courthouse this morning, New York Attorney General Letitia James had a stronf message. She said, “No matter how powerful you are, no matter how much money you think you may have, no one is above the law,” James said to the cameras before entering the courthouse. “Today we will prove our case in court,” she said. “Justice will prevail.”
During brief remarks in front of the media. Trump went on to claim that the criminal case was an attack on his 2024 presidential campaign.
“It’s an attempt to hurt me in an election,” Trump said. “It’s never happened before.”
Opening arguments are set to begin on the first day of the trial. There is no jury selection because the trial is a bench trial, meaning Judge Engoron will resolve the case.
More On His New Case
In late September, Engoron ruled that Donald not only Trump deceived banks, but also insurers and others by overvaluing and undervaluing his assets and exaggerating his net worth. James believes that Trump “inflated his net worth by billions of dollars” and said his children also helped him do so too!
As a result of this, Engoron ordered that some of Trump’s business licenses be rescinded, making it difficult or impossible for them to do business in New York. In the interim, the judge said he would continue to have an independent monitor oversee the Trump Organization’s operations.
What Will Be Talked About During The Trial
The trial will address what Trump, his businesses, his children, and his business associates did with that false information. As James believes, they used it to commit insurance fraud and to gain tax benefits.
Trump is the first U.S. president to face a federal criminal indictment.
How Can This Affect Trump In The Upcoming Election
Directly, lawsuits can create negative publicity and damage a candidate’s reputation. For Trump, it can possibly divert the attention and resources away from campaigning, making it harder to focus on key issues and connect with voters.
Indirectly, lawsuits can influence public perception and shape the narrative surrounding a candidate. Media coverage of lawsuits can impact how voters perceive a candidate’s character, credibility, and trustworthiness. Additionally, lawsuits can bring attention to certain policies or actions, potentially swaying voters’ opinions on relevant issues.
Despite that, Trump is confident that he will not only run again but become the President for a second time.
