As we previously reported, in a recent press conference the Hoover Police Department announced that Russell has been charged with making false statements to police. During the press conference we learned that Russell actually turned herself into authorities, but bonded out shortly after. She’s reportedly being charged with two class A misdemeanors. Each faces a maximum penalty of one year in prison.

Russell admitted that the kidnapping was all a lie. Her attorney released the statement on her behalf which said, “My client has given me permission to make the following statement on her behalf. There was no kidnapping on Thursday July 13, 2023. My client did not see a baby on the side of the road. My client did not leave the Hoover area when she was identified as a missing person. My client did not have any help with this incident and this was a single act done by herself.”

The statement continued: “My client was not with anyone or any hotel with anyone during the time she was missing. My client apologizes for her actions to this community, the volunteers that were searching for her, to Hoover Police Department and other agencies as well. We ask for your prayers for Carlee as she addresses her issues and attempts to move forward, understanding that she made a mistake, Carlee again asks for your forgiveness.” Officials also announced that possible charges could be filed in her case.

As we previously reported, the sister of Russell’s boyfriend, Thomar Simmons, spoke out. Taking to her Facebook on Saturday afternoon (July 22), Mya Simmons broke her silence and confirmed her brother and their family had no clue about Russell’s “fabricated story.”

Simmons wrote, “Mannnnn here y’all go since y’all literally WAITING on me to speak out on the situation and give my thoughts on it. I just can’t believe she fabricated this whole story. Carlee had my family & I believing her staged play. She had Thomar & I defending her to the utmost. Having me cussed all these people out (which I don’t regret, you all shouldn’t speak on things you don’t know about). My emotions are high. I really could turn my emotions into actions. I mean I could really head butt her loll no seriously do everything under the sun for what she have done.“
