Speaking to press on Monday after the hearing which is scheduled to continue this Tuesday, Lanez’s attorney Jose Baez explained that the singer is remorseful for his actions the night of the shooting. Baez also said since Lanez has helped people in and out of prison, he thinks it’s significant enough for the judge to take into consideration during sentencing. He added, “The numerous people he’s been helping over the years will ultimately suffer and I’m sorry.. I think that we established today… clearly shows that a community will suffer if he spent an extended amount of time behind bars.”

So What Is Tory Lanez’s Legal Team Asking For?

The team is asking for probation instead of [more] jail time. Baez explained, “First of all, he’s already doing jail time. He has over a year of credits in jail. In addition to that were asking that he received residential treatment which is in-hours treatment. You don’t go home. So that’s also a period of incarceration.”

As we previously reported, Megan Thee Stallion explained her absence from yesterday’s hearing. She said, “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” Megan, real name Megan Pete, said in a statement read by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Kathy Ta. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.” She added that she “simply could not bring myself to be in a room with Tory again.”
