UPDATE: Yaqub Talib, Brother Of Ex-NFL Star Aqib Talib, Pleads Guilty To Murder After Youth Football Game

The brother of former NFL player Aqib Talib pled guilty to murder stemming from an altercation at a youth football game last year. A Dallas County, Texas grand jury indicted Yaqub Talib on a murder charge in September 2022 after authorities say he shot Michael Hickmon during a youth football game in a Dallas suburb the month before.

As we previously reported, Talib was named as the suspect in the fatal shooting on Saturday (August 13). Lancaster Police Department officials said that a disagreement broke out between the coaching staff and an officiating crew member during a youth football game at Lancaster Community Park. The argument quickly turned physical, and then took a deadly turn as multiple gunshots were heard being fired. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

Video from the shooting quickly made its way online, and according to eyewitnesses they say they saw Talib pull out his gun and fire.

Lancaster Police Department officials released a statement and said, “Upon arrival, officers were notified of a disagreement among the coaching staff and the officiating crew. During the disagreement, the coaching staff was involved in a physical altercation and one of the individuals involved in the altercation discharged a firearm striking one adult male. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment where he was later pronounced dead.” After the incident, an arrest warrant was put out for Talib.

Talib’s brother was also present at the scene of the shooting. And since, his attorney stated that his client is “devastated” over the terrible loss of life. He stated, “He would like to convey his condolences to the family of the victim and to everyone who witnessed this unfortunate tragedy.” Aqib Talib famously used to play for the Denver Broncos, with whom he won a Super Bowl ring. He also played with several other teams over the years like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
