Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have been reportedly left startled after a wild encounter with paparazzi.
A spokesperson for the Prince confirmed that Harry and his wife Meghan Markle as well as her mother were involved in a “near catastrophic car chase.” A statement explained, “Last night, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and Ms Ragland were involved in a near catastrophic car chase at the hands of a ring of highly aggressive paparazzi,” the spokesperson shared.
“This relentless pursuit, lasting over two hours, resulted in multiple near collisions involving other drivers on the road, pedestrians and two NYPD (New York Police Department) officers.” Meghan had received an award at a ceremony earlier that evening with both Harry and her mother in attendance. While leaving, they got into an SUV, followed by police. Apparently, that’s when the chase happened.
The statement by his spokesperson also said,
“While being a public figure comes with a level of interest from the public, it should never come at the cost of anyone’s safety. Dissemination of these images, given the ways in which they were obtained, encourages a highly intrusive practice that is dangerous to all involved.”
Prince Harry has previously slammed the media’s “malicious” and “relentless” coverage of his wife in an emotional open letter back in 2019. He said at the time, “Unfortunately, my wife has become one of the latest victims of a British tabloid press that wages campaigns against individuals with no thought to the consequences – a ruthless campaign that has escalated over the past year, throughout her pregnancy and while raising our newborn son.”
“My deepest fear is history repeating itself,” he wrote. “I’ve seen what happens when someone I love is commoditised to the point that they are no longer treated or seen as a real person. I lost my mother and now I watch my wife falling victim to the same powerful forces.”
His past and current feelings are understandable as his mother, Princess Diana, died in a horrific car accident in 1997 after being chased by paparazzi in France.

This latest news comes shortly after TMZ reported that a man was arrested at the couple’s home for stalking. The suspect has been identified 29-year-old Kevin Garcia Valdovinos and he was placed under citizen’s arrest by the couple’s security at the entrance to their property. Cops took him into custody and booked him for misdemeanor stalking when they arrived. However, Valdovinos was later released on $2,500 bail.
That incident comes just three years after another man named Nickolas Brooks was detained on Christmas Eve 2020, after he reportedly drove all the way from Ohio and trespassed on the property. He was let off with a warning at that time. However, cops say Brooks returned yet again on December 26, 2020, and was arrested for trespassing.
