Instagram is gearing up to allegedly release a text-based app that will be a competitor to Twitter this Summer, per reports!
According to Bloomberg many celebrities and influencers have already been testing out the app with hopes of reportedly leaving Twitter as a whole following the changes made by new CEO Elon Musk.
The app will be separate from Instagram, however, you will be able to connect your account and follow your contacts and Instagram followers and potentially integrate other apps like Whatsapp and Facebook.

“The decentralized app is built on the back of Instagram but will be compatible with some other apps like Mastodon,” reports from a newsletter by Lia Haberman, who instructs Influencer Marketing and Social Media Marketing at UCLA.
Based on a (somewhat blurry) example I got, Meta’s new app looks a lot like Twitter.
So, could this take over all the Twitter screenshots we’ve been seeing on the Feed lately? Maybe.

App Has been dubbed Project 92
The Twitter clone has been dubbed “Project 92, P92, and Barcelona” in previous reports, however, there has been no word on what it might actually be called. Meta has not confirmed any details either.
The reports also note that posts can have 500 characters, including photos and videos that are up to five minutes long. The app will function similarly to Instagram’s policies and any blocked or restricted accounts on a user’s Instagram will roll over to the new app, allegedly.
Meta has had a track record of creating apps to compete with the likes of Tik Tok, Cameo, and more. In the past, they have not been as popular as their counterparts, but this one might be the one that grabs everyone considering Twitter’s diminishing popularity recently.
“Historically, we know Meta likes to sample and recreate features from other apps and third-party tools based on what they anticipate being popular with their users,” Haberman said to Bloomberg. “Based on Meta’s track record borrowing from other platforms, it’s much more likely they’ll get there first by consolidating all these experiences they’re building.”
