Former President Barack Obama Reacts To Wife Michelle Obama Admitting She Couldn’t ‘Stand Him For 10 Years’ — “Let Me Say This, It Sure Helps To Be Out Of The White House”

Former First Lady Michelle Obama previously admitted she “couldn’t stand” her husband, Barack Obama for a decade while the couple’s children were young. She made that admission while appearing on Revolt TV last year.

While speaking with Kelly Rowland, H.E.R., Winnie Harlow, and Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles-Lawson, Mrs. Obama said at the time, “People think I’m being catty by saying this: there were 10 years where I couldn’t stand my husband,” she told a round-table forum. “And guess when it happened? When those kids were little.” In a follow-up interview with Gayle King on CBS, Michelle clarified her remarks and explained that “We’ve been married for 30 years. If I fell out with him for 10, and we had a great 20 years, I’d take those odds anytime.”

As Michelle spoke with Gayle King she also explained why she decdied to speak about marriage, the good and the challenging part about it. “I share these things because marriage is hard. And a lot of young people quit on marriage over things that are just a part of the commitment,” Michelle said.

“We glamorize marriage. And in this day and age, marriage is more about the dress, and the dresses, and the proposal, and the honeymoon and all the stuff around it, and young people aren’t ready for the real of marriage. So I think once again, it’s incumbent upon us, people who have had successful marriages, to be really honest about the fact that making a commitment to be with someone means you compromise, and compromise ain’t always fun,” she added at the time.

Barack Obama recently appeared on @cbsmornings for a sit-down interview with @nateburleson where he reacted to his wife’s comments. With a smooth response, Barack, 61, said, “Let me say this, it sure helps to be out of the White House,” he joked before explaining further, “When our girls were growing up, that was priority number one, two, three, and four, and so I did not fully appreciate the degree and stress and tension for her; knowing that me and Michelle were under scrutiny and in this strange environment, but that we were raising our daughters in a situation that wasn’t normal.” Barack went on to say, “Now they’re doing good, she [Michelle] is a little more forgiving of all of my flaws.”

Barack Obama went on to share what his wife recently told him while looking back on how they raised their children:

“What she’s told me is, you know, looking back, you ‘did OK as a dad’ and if I passed that test, then she’ll forgive me, most of my other foibles.”
