Will Smith Reportedly ‘Embarrassed & Hurt’ Over Chris Rock’s Comments In Netflix Special

Just one year after the mega slap that rocked Chris Rock and viewers who watched it all unfold at the 2022 Oscars, the comedian finally addressed the incident publicly for the first time in his Netflix special Selective Outrage.

“Y’all know what happened to me, getting smacked by Shug Smith,” Rock said at the end of his hour-long special, which streamed live earlier this month. “Everybody knows. Everybody f*cking knows. Yes. It happened: Like a year ago, I got smacked at the f*cking Oscars by this motherf*cker.” During his performance, Rock also shared a theory that Smith had slapped him out of displaced anger at Pinkett Smith. “Will Smith practices selective outrage,” Rock said. “Everyone that really knows I didn’t have anything to do with that sh*#. I didn’t have any ‘entanglements.’”

He went on to say, “She [Jada Pinkett Smith] hurt him way more than he hurt me. Everybody in the world called him a b*tch,” Rock said. “And who’s he hit? Me!” Of course, Rock said way more than that and apparently, his standup special actually hurt Will Smith’s feelings… according to sources.

“Will is embarrassed and hurt by what Chris said about him and his family in his Netflix special. He didn’t watch it, but he had people tell him what Chris said,” a source told Entertainment Tonight of how Smith felt amid the aftermath of the special. “It’s everywhere when you look online and on social media, so Will and Jada have seen comments about it.”

The source added that Smith is “upset” that Netflix gave Rock “this platform” to express his views. “Will is also upset that Netflix was a part of this and thinks Chris insulting Jada again is below the belt,” the source added. “He is upset that Netflix gave Chris this platform to share these messages and thinks it’s distasteful,” the news site quotes.

To note, Will Smith did apologize to Rock in an emotional YouTube video for socking him onstage. He also shared a written apology on Instagram the day after the Academy Awards. “Will apologized to Chris and would like for Chris to let it go,” the source added. “Will has worked on himself and he is banned by the Oscars for 10 years. He feels like that’s enough and wants Chris to move on so that he and everyone else can too.”

Meanwhile, another source said that after finally getting that all off of his chest, Rock is now ready to move on from the Oscars slap.

“He said everything he wanted to say,” the source told ET. “It was funny, self-deprecating, and thought-provoking. Now, “Chris is ready to move on.”
