Mother Of George Floyd’s Daughter Files $250M Lawsuit Against Kanye West For His Comments On His Tragic Death

As expected, a lawsuit has been filed against Kanye West over the statements he made about George Floyd.

This Tuesday, Roxie Washington, the mother of George Floyd’s daughter filed the $250 million suit against the rapper after he claimed Floyd died as a result of fentanyl use. “I watched the George Floyd documentary that Candace Owens put out. One of the things that his two roommates said was they want a tall guy like me, and the day that he died, he said a prayer for eight minutes,” West said on the show Drink Champs. “They hit him with the fentanyl. If you look, the guy’s knee wasn’t even on his neck like that.”

In a news release that discussed the lawsuit filed by Washington, lawyers said West made “false statements about George Floyd’s death to promote his brands, and increase marketing value and revenue for himself, his business partners, and associates.” In addition to that,
The release also says that West stated “malicious falsehoods” about Floyd in order to profit from his death as well as the family’s trauma.

To note, Floyd’s family has issued a cease-and-desist letter to West for the comments he made on Drink Champs podcast, which has now been taken down.

More On Kanye’s Drink Champ Episode

Following a big wave of backlash, co-host and founder of the show N.O.R.E. N.O.R.E. called into the Breakfast Club to apologize for Kanye’s statements. While on air, he also revealed that Ye had threatened to walk out of the recording, and that he didn’t even realize what West had said until he rewatched the episode.

“I just wanna be honest, I support freedom of speech,” N.O.R.E. said. “I support anybody, you know, not being censored. But I do not support anybody being hurt. I did not realize that the George Floyd statements on my show was so hurtful. And you gotta realize, it was the first five minutes of the show. When he walked in, he told my producer, he said that if he’ll stop filming, he’ll walk out.”

He went on to say, “I apologize to the George Floyd family,” N.O.R.E. added. “I apologize to anybody that was hurt by Kanye West’s comments.” Before concluding he said, “I don’t support none of it. I don’t support the George Floyd comments, I don’t support the antisemitic [comments]. That’s all I have is Jewish friends, all I have is Black friends. That’s it.”

Floyd, who is a Black man, was killed in an
altercation with police in Minneapolis in May
2020, with a nine-minute video showing
Officer Derek Chauvin with his knee on his
neck, blocking his airway. Chauvin was eventually sentenced to 22½ years behind bars last year on murder and manslaughter charges in Minnesota, and 21 years in July after a federal trial.
