JoAnn Oliver was getting lunch at the fast food restaurant when she discovered the cash in her sandwich. Rather than keeping the money, she decided to contact the police and return the money to the restaurant. As a reward, KFC gave Oliver a refund of her lunch in addition to a free meal. WSB-TV explained that she could’ve used the money for her husband’s medical bills since he’s currently battling cancer. The total amount of their bills is $2 million, and she considered keeping the money before changing her mind.
“If you don’t do the right thing it’s gonna come back on you,”I mean It wasn’t mine. I didn’t need to keep it. I’ll get mine in the future. I started counting it and when I got to $500, I stopped and just put it back in the envelope, closed the envelope put the sandwich back the way I got it and just slid it to the side until the officer got here,”
The City of Jackson Police Department praised Oliver for her honesty and said she “saved” the manager’s job by returning the funds. “Mrs. Oliver had gone to a local restaurant drive through on her lunch break and returned to work to enjoy her lunch. When she opened her lunch, and removed her sandwich, she was surprised to find $543.10 in cash under her sandwich,” the department said on their official Facebook page.

“Not only did Mrs. Oliver do the right thing but she saved the managers job. Mrs. Oliver thank you for reminding us that we have amazing Citizens in Jackson and it’s people like you that make us great!”
Social media reacts to the news, and asks if the woman has a GoFundMe account
After learning about Oliver’s medical debt, several social media users agreed that the $500 wouldn’t even come close enough to the bills she has to pay.
Smart move. Returning that money just got her national exposure. I’m willing to bet returning that $543 will turn into quite a bit more.

The bigger story is why people in this country have medical bills totaling 2M.what kinda country is this? But we claim to be the best country in the world but we can’t provide less costly medical care? Sad.
